Do you know where any dog wishes to be? It’s Territorio de Zaguates or “Land of the Stray”, located in the mountains of Santa Barbara in Costa Rica. This dog sanctuary is a no-kill shelter to more than 900 dogs who can happily run around the hills while stay warm and safe indoors when the weather gets rough.

Founded by Lya Battle and Alvaro Saumet, this privately funded dog shelter interestingly names dogs by their unique breeds such as “Chubby Tailed German Dobernauzer” in an effort to highlight their one-of-a-kind traits and dispel the myth that purebreds are more valuable.

This amazing place welcomes visitors who want to stop by, volunteers and anyone who considers adoption. All free of charge, advanced scheduling with the team there would be highly encouraged via their Facebook or email at territoriovisits@gmail.com

When you adopt a mutt, you adopt a unique breed.

Visitors can enjoy as many cuddles and petting as they want with those lovely creatures.

Every day, these dogs get to run around the hills with human companions.

This happy face is priceless.

Those trusting eyes and body languages say it all.

A dozen of staff at the shelter hold responsibility of caring for the 900+ dogs.

It is difficult not to include this place into your bucket list of places to visit.
