Do you have a hard time getting your pup to take pills (be them medicine or supplements)? It’s actually very easy to make pill pockets at home with only a few minutes preparation time required, while you can rest assured what you are feeding is nutritious and flavourful.

Coconut pockets

Coconut oil can increase energy levels, improve skin, coat and digestion, as well as reduce allergic reactions.

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Ingredients: Coconut oil (1 tablespoon) Coconut flour (approx. 2 tablespoons or more) We choose coconut flour only because the flavour matches well, you can feel free to use other types of flour.

Yields: 4-5 pockets

Steps: 1. Simply add coconut oil into coconut flour little by little, and stir the mixture until you have a nice dough. 2. Form the dough into a bite sized ball and make a pocket by pressing with the end of a chopstick. 3. Slide a pill into a pocket and squeeze dough to cover.

Tips:

*Choose virgin coconut oil (extra virgin is the same as virgin) in solid form, preferably organic in a glass jar. The least preferable is “refined, bleached and deodorized” RBD oil because it is processed with heat and chemicals, and as a result, nutrients such as poly-phenols and vitamin E are destroyed.

*Coconut oil is in clear liquid form when temperature is above 25C, and when below it is a solid fat. You can simply use warm water to turn the solid form into liquid before adding it to the flour.

Peanut butter pockets
